This talk sets the stage for understanding masonry construction, exploring the evolution of masonry construction, from historic mass masonry walls to modern cavity and veneer walls. It includes an interactive exercise identifying common masonry building types, with tips and tricks to identify them. Lastly, it discusses common masonry defects and ways to diagnose them.
